Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed has apologized for his offensive remarks regarding girl students of Jahangirnagar University.
The information was given in a circular signed by the acting director of the public relations office of the university Mohammad Mohiuddin around 2 pm on Monday.
The notification said, ‘Today at 12 noon the Vice-Chancellor of SUST Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed has apologized through a phone call to Farzana Islam, Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University and sincerely apologized for the comments made about the girl students.’
The statement further said, “His statement has been edited and publicized on Facebook. This has created anger in the minds of the students of Jahangirnagar University. At the same time university teachers and all concerned were hurt.”
“He realized the matter and hope that the liberal and progressive students and teachers of the university will forgive him.”
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Farid Uddin Ahmed denied allegations of making offensive remarks against students of Jahangirnagar University.
The vice-chancellor claimed that the audio spread in his name was ‘bogus’ but he did not make any such comment.
Students have been protesting since Monday demanding the resignation of SUST Vice Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed. Meanwhile, the audio clip spread on Facebook.
