According to the new guidelines, the regulatory body BTRC had instructed Internet service providers to convert their licenses. However, even after three and a half months of the deadline, about 350 ISPs have not yet complied with the directive.
The regulator also issued a letter of intent on November 13 to the companies to apply for conversion in the fastest possible time. According to the directive signed by Md. Nurunnabi, Director, Legal and Licensing Department, almost six months after the issuance of the new guideline, most of the companies have not applied for the conversion. The letter also said that legal action would be taken against the companies which did not convert within that time by setting a deadline of September 25.
The BTRC’s licensing department is taking some time to take legal action in response to ISPAB’s request. Although, if the conversion is not done the license is valid but the companies will not be excused after next week.
The source said that according to the new policy, those organizations which have not converted their licenses will be disconnected. They need to apply for a license conversion both online and offline.
According to sources, almost all of these organizations are from remote areas and not members of ISPAB. ISPAB President Imdadul Haque said that this process has been created within a day as the membership of ISPAB is mandatory to apply.
