About 600 crore taka from customers has been stuck to the accused e-commerce companies due to cases against them. To refund the money to the customers, the ministry of commerce has directed the Police Headquarters to produce the relevant updated information regarding all cases against the companies within 7 days.
Additional Secretary, ministry of commerce and the coordinator of high-level committee deployed by the government, AHM Shafikujjaman informed the message on 21 December after a meeting with the technical committee on e-commerce issues at the ministry of commerce.
The Additional Secretary informed that the Ministry of Commerce asked for the updated information from the Police about the cases against the e-commerce companies in order to disburse the money of customers willing to buy various products stuck at the payment gateway.
He said that, to disburse the money stuck in the payment gateway, this information related to defaulter e-commerce companies has been asked from the Police. Customers of those companies against whom there is no cases will get their money back on priority basis. That is why the Police Headquarters has been directed to submit the information in this connection. Based on their information, Bangladesh Bank will instruct the payment gateways to refund the money to the concerned customers.
It was informed in the meeting that about 200 crore taka of customers has been stuck at different payment gateways at this moment.
