The International Robot Olympiad started from Daegu, South Korea. A 16-member team from Bangladesh is taking part in the competition which will continue till December 18.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, Bangladesh is participating in this international event from the conference center of Bangladesh Computer Society located in Dhanmondi. On Wednesday (December 15) at 7 am on the day of the event; 5 members of the junior group (7-12 years old) sat in the creative category competition. The participants are Misbah Uddin Inan, a student of Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College, Jaima Zahin Wara, a student of William Carey Academy, Zaria Musarrat, Zahra Mahzarin Purbali and Zaiba Mahzabin, students of Aga Khan School, Dhaka.
The entire competition is monitored online from South Korea. In next category on Thursday, in tha same venue the patricipants who will compete are: Mahruj Mohammad Ayman, a student of Navy Anchorage School, Mir Umaima Haque and Prapa Haldar, a student of Nalanda High School, Ragib Yasar Rahman, a student of Dhanmondi Government Boys’ High School will participate in the competition in the next venue on Thursday. Students Tafsir Tahrim and Kazi Mostahid Labib, Rafihat Saleh, a student of Jalalabad Cantonment English School, Sylhet, Mahir Tajwar Chowdhury, a student of Mirzapur Cadet College, Nashitat Zainah Rahman, a student of Sunbeams and students of Bhangura Zarina Rahim Girls High School, Pabna.
The competition is organized by ICT Division, Bangladesh Open Source Network and Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department of Dhaka University. Bangladesh Computer Council is the implementation partner.
Bangladesh Robot Olympiad Coordinator Mishal Islam said that Bangladesh Computer Society is providing venue support and 300 Mbps uninterrupted internet facility in this four day long competition following the criteria of International Robot Olympiad.
Earlier, a two-day international team selection camp was held on 22nd and 23rd October with the winners of the 4th Bangladesh Robot Olympiad 2021 National Competition Robot in Movie, Creative Category and Robot Gathering Competition. From this camp, a 16-member Bangladesh team was selected after selecting the skills of small roboticists. Bangladesh Computer Society is co-hosting the 23rd International Robot Olympiad.
In 2018, Bangladesh team won a gold medal, two highly commanded medals and a technical medal for the first time participating in the 20th International Robot Olympiad held in Manila, Philippines. Achieved a total of 10 medals including one technical medal.
Bangladesh team won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 5 bronze medals and 6 technical medals by participating in the 22nd International Robot Olympiad held online in South Korea in 2020. Despite many limitations, this achievement of the Bangladesh team has brought us pride.
