Authorities at the social media site Facebook have removed 94 of the 268 links to obscene and vulgar remarks made by former Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Murad Hasan which were recently sent by the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The remaining 174 links are yet to be removed.
BTRC Director General of Systems and Services Brigadier General Md. Nasim Parvez informed so on Thursday. He was responding to a question from Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh (TRNB) during an exchange of views with BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder at the Ramna head office in the capital.
BTRC Director General Md. Nasim Parvez said, “Facebook has removed the content that contains the word ‘rape’ before the BTRC said it.”
Meanwhile, two of the 120 YouTube content of Murad sent by BTRC have been removed. He added that YouTube has been contacted with. But YouTube is very committed to their policy. There is a system of content reporting. Their team works after reporting. YouTube is yet to agree to make ‘team building’ better with BTRC. However, BTRC keeps trying.
About the contents of Murad Hasan which are not yet removed from Facebook, Nasim Parvez said that the video content contains some extra conversations. That has to be seen separately. The relationship with Facebook has improved a lot since 2021. Now there are meetings with them in every three months.
Earlier on Tuesday, the High Court directed to remove the audio-video of ruling Awami League MP Murad Hasan from social media. Later, members of the BTRC’s digital security team identified the links.
