Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the ICT Department’s ‘Digital Government and Economy Enrichment’ project to set up an integrated cloud-computing digital platform for all government departments and agencies and a digital leadership academy to enhance government capacity and provide employment to one lakh youth by giving priority to women. The total proposed cost of the project taken by the ICT department is estimated at Tk 2,541 crore. At the same time, the expenditure on ICT infrastructure, human resource and technology skills project of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat has been increased by Tk 13.84 crore at the ECNEC meeting.
The new project will start from next January. The implementing agency Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) wants to complete this work by December 2026.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak presented the two projects at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday.
The Minister of State for ICT has expressed ‘respectful gratitude’ to the Prime Minister on behalf of the ICT Department for approving the two projects. In this regard, Palak said, “I would like to express my gratitude and sincere thanks to Sajeeb Wazed Joy Bhai, the Information and Communication Technology Advisor to the Prime Minister and the architect of Digital Bangladesh. The ICT department is working relentlessly under his overall direction.”
Meanwhile, after the ECNEC meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that 10 projects have been approved in the ECNEC meeting. Of these, five are revised and five are new. The proposed cost of the ‘Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management’ project has been estimated at Tk 1,182 crore.

The approved project will also include digging a new navigable route from Mongla via Chandpur-Mawa-Goalando to Pakshi Rooppur nuclear power plant. The total distance of the waterway is 460 kilometers. Expenditure on waterway excavation is increasing by another Tk 334 crore. The depth of this route will be increased for transporting heavy goods of nuclear power plants. Ships with a draft of 5 meters (depth of the submarine) will be excavated mainly for landing at the jetty.
The new project presentation, passed by the ICT Department, states that Parliamentary Resource Planning (PRP) software has been developed for the Secretariat of Parliament; Digital Service Design and Planning Lab (DSDL); Creation and upgrading of various customized software modules, mobile applications and websites and digital archiving of all works from 1st to 11th Parliament.
