As per the instructions of the government, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (BTRC) has been able to block 100% of the alleged web links from virtual media in the last one year. At the same time, the commission was able to delete 25.95 percent of the content requested to be removed from Facebook and 14.39 percent of YouTube content.
One thousand 60 web links have been closed through a technical system called Cyber Threat Detection and Response (CTDR).
In addition, 18 thousand 836 requests were made to Facebook and the company closed 4 thousand 888 links. When YouTube was asked about 431 links, they blocked 62 links.
The BTRC has nothing to do with the fact that the global digital media companies are run according to their community standard guidelines.
However, the BTRC, which protects the younger generation, has already removed more than 22,000 pornographic sites, five Facebook accounts and abusive posts and offensive content in the name of the Chief Justice of the High Court.
The regulatory body has been able to implement this initiative through a content reporting system under the direction of the government.
Director General (Systems and Services) of the Commission Brigadier General Nasim Parvez presented this information at an emergency press conference held at the BTRC office on Monday.
BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder presided over the virtual press conference, which was attended by Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar and Secretary Afzal Hossain.
