The government has taken initiative to build and launch Bangabandhu Satellite-2 with its own funds. Experts are working to determine the type of Bangabandhu Satellite-2, whether it will be a communication satellite or Earth or weather satellite.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said this while addressing a virtual event organized by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 into space.
He added that work has already started to implement the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-2. The government is committed to implementing it within the stipulated time as promised in the election manifesto.
Chairman of the state-owned company BSCL Shahjahan Mahmud presided over the ceremony while Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md. Afzal Hossain, BTRC Chairman Shamsunder Sikder, Director General of the Department of Posts Md. Sirajuddin, Managing Director of BTCL, Rafiqul Matin, Managing Director of Submarine Cable Limited Mashiur Rahman, Managing Director of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited Md. Sahab Uddin, Managing Director of Tesis Fakrul Haider Chowdhury, Managing Director of Cable Industry Jagdish Chandra and Board Member of BSCL Dr. Sajjad Hossain delivered their speeches.
The Minister of Telecommunications said, ‘May 12, 2018, is the day to fulfill the dream of Bangalis to conquer space. On this day, the first communication satellite of the country- Bangabandhu Satellite-1 was launched from the Kennedy Space Station in Florida, USA. Mr. Mustafa Jabbar, a pioneer in the development of computer technology in the country, said, “Bangabandhu Satellite-1, the first step of Bangladesh’s spacewalk in space, this historic beginning is an incredible advancement in the national life.”
Acting Managing Director of BSCL Mohammad Abdul Hannan presented the keynote address at the event.
