Telecommunications regulator BTRC has taken a stern stance against telecom operators who are obstructing customers by blocking unwanted promotional messages on mobile phones by dialing certain shortcodes.
BTRC informed that the telecom operators whose customers are being deprived of this facility have been called upon to resolve the ongoing problems.
It is learned that on April 24 this year, BTRC issued a notice regarding the launch of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ or DND service to stop promotional or annoying messages. Even after this notice from the regulatory body, the customers of certain mobile operators are not able to accept this service. The BTRC took this step in light of their allegations.
According to multiple sources in the regulatory body, the highest number of complaints is against one of the five mobile operators in the country with the highest number of customers.
In this regard, BTRC Vice-Chairman Subrata Roy Mitra said, BTRC is working on the issue in the interest of customers and to solve the problem.
According to the BTRC notice, from now on, customers of four mobile operators will be able to launch DND services by dialing shortcodes. Grameenphone subscribers can dial *121*1101#, Banglalink subscribers *1216*8# and Robi and Airtel subscribers can dial *6# to launch DND service.
