Mustafa Jabbar, Minister, Posts and Telecommunications Ministry has urged the concerned people to take all necessary services through the mobile financial service ‘Nagad’, a service offered by the postal department from home by following a safe physical distance to prevent the spread of corona infection.
In the last few days, a government text message (SMS) has been sent to all active mobile connections in the country from the Department of Posts and Telecommunications.
The Department of Posts and Telecommunications has consciously been promoting the SMS.
According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the total number of active mobile connections in the country at the end of February is 17 crores 34 lakh, in each of which the postal department has sent this SMS.
According to the SMS, the government has declared a lockdown to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. In these circumstances, pay the bill of all services including mobile recharge, gas, electricity, water, internet and so on just free of charge from home through the postal department’s service ‘Nagad’.
Considering the current Corona situation, ‘Nagad’ has made various arrangements for its customers to get services at home. In order to stay connected with the digital world, all the great features have been offered including cashback on recharge through ‘Nagad’ on mobile phones. Moreover, there is an opportunity to pay for all services including gas, electricity, water and internet bills free of cost. While others are charging from Tk 5 to Tk 30 for each of these bills, the ‘Nagad’ bill pay service is free. To stand by the people in the pandemic, ‘Nagad’ carries the slogan: ‘If people live, the country will live’.
In order to reduce the rate of infection by reducing the use of money on paper, MFS was the first to introduce the system of payment of covid test fees in cash. ‘Nagad’ has already gained popularity in the market with the lowest cash-out service with the opportunity to make free send money through the app to any number. At present, 12,000 merchants and 500 e-commerce are connected with ‘Nagad’, so all the daily necessities including shopping at home are being met.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar was impressed by the arrangement of ‘Nagad’ to get all the services at home during the pandemic.
That is why such SMSs have been sent to increase customer awareness and keep the people of the country safe, he said.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, “People are becoming more and more interested in digital transactions or payments as ‘Nagad’ is an excellent example of ensuring the freedom of financial transactions of consumers at no cost or at nominal cost. “From the beginning, I have seen that ‘Nagad’ has always been its service to the people. This example of ‘Nagad’ delivery of services from the center to the edge through mobile phones is one of the best examples of the government’s digitization process. ‘Nagad’ is now the number one operator in the country in many ways including providing the best service using technology, ensuring the opportunity to transact at the lowest cost. I believe that in a very short time it will be established commercially as the top MFS operator in the country.’
‘Nagad’, as the fastest-growing mobile financial services in the world has recently surpassed two landmarks of 40 million subscribers and a daily turnover of taka 400 crores.
Launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on March 26, 2019, it is now the second-largest MFS operator in the country in terms of the number of ‘Nagad’ subscribers.
Such a success of government service in just two years after the start of commercial service has resonated around. During the ongoing pandemic, the government has introduced digitization in the distribution of various allowances, stipends and financial assistance, making it easier for the beneficiaries to get government assistance, ensure transparency and save the government money.
