Websum, one of Europe’s largest technology organizations, has appointed a new CEO. The announcement of the appointment of former Wikimedia CEO Catherine Maher to the position came just a couple of weeks before the start of the flagship technology conference in Lisbon. News Reuters.
Earlier last week, Web Summit’s former CEO and co-founder Paddy Cosgrave was forced to resign after commenting on the ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestine.
Cosgrave resigned after apologizing for his comments, but still owns about 81 percent of the company, founded in 2009.
Web Summit sponsors Meta, Google, Stripe, Intel and other speakers have announced that they will not participate in this year’s event.
Web Summit will be held in Lisbon from November 13 to 16. Usually there are about 70 thousand participants in this event. This time the web summit was planned to attract 2600 startups and more than 800 investors.
