A US court has fined Google $1 million for gender discrimination against a female executive. Rowe, who has 23 years of work experience, alleged that she was assigned to a low-level position where her salary was significantly lower than that of men. News Engadget and BDNews.
Ulku Rowe, director of Google’s cloud engineering department, has reportedly been hired by the company at a lower level than male employees. And the company paid her relatively less despite hiring less experienced men for the same period and in the same position.
Rowe also claims the company withheld her promotion in favor of a less qualified male colleague.
A jury in a New York court on Friday ruled that Google must pay $1.15 million in punitive damages and overall damages for gender discrimination.
Note that before joining Google in 2017, Rowe had 23 years of working experience.
