For the welfare of workers, Grameenphone, the country’s top mobile phone operator, has deposited 10 percent of the 2022 Workers’ Profit Participation Fund (WPPF) to the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation (Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Foundation). According to the operator, today (September 19) a delegation led by Grameenphone Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Syeda Tahia Hossain handed over a check of Tk. 25 crore 99 lakh 50 thousand 521 to the State Minister to the Labor and Employment Ministry Bugum Munnujan Sufian.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment ministry Md. Ehsan Elahi, Grameenphone’s Head of Industrial Relations and HR Strategy KM Sabbir Ahmed, the company’s Senior Industrial Relations Muhammad Tawhidul Islam and Industrial Relations Expert Md. Haroon or Rashid were present at that time in the conference room of the Ministry.
In this context, Grameenphone Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Syeda Tahia Hossain said, “Grameenphone is committed to being a responsible corporate organization as part of the Telenor Group. Over the past 25 years, we have played a significant role in digitization and development. In this journey, we are working dedicatedly to contribute towards building a future-ready skilled workforce to achieve the goal of Smart Bangladesh. We are also equally committed to stand by our employees in times of adversity with the support of the Government of Bangladesh.”
It may be noted that, under the Bangladesh Labor Act, local and multinational companies contribute one-tenth of 5 percent of their profits to this fund at the end of the year. 213 crore 32 lakh 20 thousand 82 taka has been deposited since the beginning of the journey.
