The Vice-Chancellor of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain has assured the new students that this university will be declared as a residential university very soon. It is not enough to do well in studies alone, but to be good in character and in all aspects; be an enlightened person. Human qualities should be acquired along with studies, he said.
On Monday morning in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academic Building gallery of JUST, Prof. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain shared these points. Earlier, the English department welcomed the new students with flowers.
Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said, JUST is a very fast growing university. Currently there is no other such fast growing university in Bangladesh. I welcome you as a guardian in the arena of such a growing university. Very soon this university will be declared as a residential university. All students must be residents.
He said that today’s students are very talented. We have to maintain the culture and culture of Bengalis and move forward by acquiring human qualities.
Referring to zero tolerance against ragging, Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said that maximum action will be taken against those involved in ragging. Those who give rags and those who are victims of ragging and remain silent, try to save the raggers, strict action will be taken against both the parties. Those who do ragging will be directly expelled from the university. Those involved in ragging will be disqualified from any university. Our aim is to ensure a healthy and peaceful learning environment for students in this university.
Dr. Md. Monibur Rahman, Chairman of the English department presided over the program. Aassistant professor of the department Farzana Yasmin delivered a welcome speech. Associate professor of the department Dr. Md. Abdullah Mamun, Dr. Maryam Jamila, Md. Abdul Halim, Sharmin Sultana, Tanzeer Ahmed, lecturer Tabassum Islam Nabani, Tusmit Mehruba, Mahmudur Rahman Siam and other students of different years were present at the event.
In the event, special honors were given to the students who won the first place in different batches of the department by presenting mementos. After that, an interesting cultural program started with poetry recitation by Tamanna Noora, a first year student of English Department. Dance, recitation of poetry, beautiful presentation of country music were enjoyed by the audience. The students of the English Department, Turaisah bint Humayan and Syed Abdun Noor, conducted the program.
