Russia has fined social media site Reddit for not removing “prohibited content” for the first time. The country claims that Reddit contains false information about Russia’s military operations in Ukraine. Reuters reported this news with reference to a court in Moscow and RIA.
Reddit has been added to the list of sites under investigation by Russian authorities. That list includes Wikimedia, streaming service Twitch and Google. Russia claims that the companies have failed to remove ‘fake’ content on these sites.
The court fined Reddit 2 million rubles or $20,365, RIA said.
Also on Tuesday, the court fined the Wikimedia Foundation the same amount.
No comment was received from Reddit on this matter.
