In the era of free flow of information on the Internet, fraudulent cases are also increasing. One of them is spreading rumors, which is very harmful to the society. Rumors come in disguise of information that cannot be verified on social media. There is no alternative to relying on mainstream media to verify the authenticity of such information.
On Friday (11 August 2023), the negotiators shared their thoughts at a workshop on the art of fact check in the capital. The workshop was organized by the Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation (CCAF) under the auspices of technology services provider Cyber Paradise. Journalists, social organizers, teachers and students of different media of the country participated in it. This practical training was done at the US Software Lab at Panthapath More in the capital.
In the workshop, Shubashish Deep, fact-checker of ULab’s fact-checking organization Fact Watch, discussed the techniques of data verification using various software. The speech was delivered by CCAF’s advisory Engineer Md. Mushfiqur Rahman and President Kazi Mustafiz.
Engineer Mushfiqur Rahman said that some abuses are also increasing with the spread of technology. Stakeholder interests are involved in systematically spreading fake news. It can be personal, political or national. This is why user awareness is important. And journalists play an important role in creating awareness. That is why it is important for journalists to acquire technical skills in fact checking.
