An investigation report on the leak of citizens’ information from birth and death registration sites has been prepared and now that is under review. Then there will be a meeting on Monday. Only then the technical weakness behind it or the names of the responsible persons will be known. However, before that, in the meeting, along with 29 important institutions of the government, the relevant institutions will be given the opportunity to defend themselves.
The State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak conveyed the matter in response to questions from journalists after the inauguration of the BPO conference on Saturday.
He said, ‘We will read the report; then realize and analyze the judgment, and then we will give our recommendations, opinions or decisions. That is why the meeting has been called for next Monday. After meeting with all the critical infrastructure and the responsible institutions that we have, we will be able to take a decision. We will also call the organizations from which the data was leaked. I will also give them an opportunity to explain in defense’.
The Minister of State for ICT further said that, it has not been informed who has followed the instructions of formation of independent CIRT teams for critical infrastructures.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that, two committees were formed, one was an inquiry report and the other was a committee to determine the future course of action. The inquiry committee will investigate why such an incident happened, who is responsible for it, whether there was a technical error, or any negligence at the personal level, what we could or can do to prevent such an incident from happening in the future. Another committee that does not focus on this event. The lesson we are taking from this incident is to avoid such mistakes or negligence in the future. For that we have constituted a coordination committee consisting of 29 critical infrastructure, law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies, BGD e-GOV CIRT and DCA. So that they can be aware of these 29 institutions all the time and share any necessary information.
In response to another question, Palak also said that the ICT Division is coordinating the security and protection of digital infrastructure.
However, to stay safe, the ICT state minister urged everyone to be careful at the personal level and to adhere to the cyber security guidelines.
