The Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud commented that posting a tweet or commenting on social media about our trivial issues is deemed as poking into the internal affairs of Bangladesh, and therefore, quoting those comments as news sources from the part of journalists is nothing but yellow journalism.
He made this comment during an exchange of views with journalists on contemporary issues in the meeting room of his ministry at the secretariat on Wednesday, July 19.
In response to journalists’ questions about the attack on independent candidate Hero Alam in Dhaka-17 constituency by-election. Hasan said, Look, I am very surprised that the tweets of the Resident Representative of the United Nations or Amnesty International Bangladesh have been promoted as statements of the United Nations and Amnesty. Propaganda or creating news like this is nothing but malinformation, unjournalistic.
He asked, if I tweet or give a status, will it be the government’s statement? I am the information minister and joint general secretary of the party. Therefore, it is not appropriate to promote any tweet of the UN
Resident Representative here or Amnesty International Bangladesh as their statement or concern. This is the epitome of yellow journalism. I would request everyone to refrain from these and be careful.
