The number of Internet users in the country increased by 5 percent in a year. And in the last 10 years the number of internet users has increased seven times.
Analyzing three years of data, it can be seen that the internet user rate in the country was 6.7 percent in 2013, which increased to 38.1 percent in 2022 and 43.6 percent in 2023.
The 2023 ‘Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Usage Survey 2023’ says that 63.1 percent of the current internet users are urban, while the remaining 37.1 percent are from rural towns. At the household level, the highest is 59 percent in Dhaka Division. The lowest is 27.3 percent in Barisal and Rangpur divisions. And the rate of internet users at the individual level is 44.5 percent.
The results of this survey were released at the Statistics Building in Agargaon of the capital on Monday. Planning Minister MA Mannan, ICT Department Secretary Samsul Arefin, Statistics and Information Management Division Secretary Shahnaz Arefin were present.
Director General of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). Project Director Syeda Marufa Shaki, presenting the results of the survey in the program presided over by Matiar Rahman, said that 4.8 percent of internet users were at the household level in the country in 2013. It has increased to 43.6 percent in 2023.
To collect this information, this government agency conducted a survey on 30 thousand 816 houses and 1 lakh 12 thousand 600 people. And the rate of internet usage at home is high.
