The target of selling 50,000 animals in Digital Market this year has been set. But this time 20 percent less animals can be sold online. Sales will be lower after the post pandemic financial situation and because of the increase of animal prices. A press release on Saturday (June 24) reported such fears from the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB).
It is said that online sale of sacrificial animals has already started. Directorate of Livestock and local level haats are connected to digital haats.
However, this year, expatriates have the opportunity to buy sacrificial animals at the digital market. Online sale of sacrificial animals started under the management of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) and with the technical support of EkShop under the Aspire to Innovate (a2i) project of the government.
According to the press release, 27 thousand animals were sold in the first year of Digital Haat in 2020. After that, 3 lakh 87 thousand sacrificial animals were sold in 2021 through digital market. Last year i.e. in 2022, about 60 thousand animals were sold on this platform.
Regarding this, Mohammad Abdul Waheed Tamal, General Secretary of e-CAB, said, “We have included about 10,000 farmers in this process in the last 3 years. In various ways they have sold animals online and many have directly benefited from it. We have continued this initiative keeping in mind all the farmers, online entrepreneurs and buyers of sacrificial animals.
Also, Rezwanul Haque Jami, Team Leader of EkShop and Head of Commercial Strategy Department of a2i said, apart from digitalhaat.gov.bd , the country’s leading cattle selling platforms are connected with it.
Asif Ahnaf, Finance Secretary of e-CAB, said that the special addition of this year’s digital haat is the opportunity to buy animals online for expatriates. But this will be applicable only for purchase from original platform digitalhaat.gov.bd . Besides, the animal must be located in the district for which the buyer will purchase.
