The mobile phone operators are in trouble with SIM related services as the Election Commission’s NID server has been down for 36 hours. As of writing this report (Tuesday 2:20 PM) the server was down.
Sources of the Election Commission said that the server may be operational on Wednesday. Earlier also in January 2019 NID server was down for about 13 days
Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh- AMTOB told the Telecom Regulatory Commission on Monday that the NID server was down for about 18 hours (since Sunday night). This is disrupting their 8 service activities including SIM registration. In that letter, it is said that there have been several outages in this server in the current year, in two rounds of 35 hours in May and 50 minutes in March and February, the server was down for 1 hour and 58 minutes in March.
As a result, SIM card registration services such as SIM registration, SIM replacement, MNP, roaming services, ownership transfer etc. are provided by verifying the identity of mobile customers through the NID server. However, the mobile customers are not able to take the above services as the EC server is down recently.
