The government has taken the initiative of converting the printed books on paper pages to e-books. At the same time, the eBook will be made accessible and made available to the readers, said the State Minister for Culture KM Khalid. He said that there is no substitute for e-books in building an enlightened society by creating smart libraries and providing modern services to readers as one of the components of building a smart society.
The State Minister oined so while speaking as the Chief Guest at a seminar titled ‘Role of e-library in building smart library’ under the initiative of the Directorate of Public Libraries and Chittagong Muslim Institute Cultural Complex in the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum in the capital on Sunday morning.
The chief guest said that in converting paper books to e-books, priority should be given to quality books. Care should be taken to ensure that substandard books are not included. The State Minister called upon the public library directorate and publishers to take necessary steps in this regard.
Dr. Abubakar Siddique, Director General of the Directorate of Public Libraries, presented the keynote speech at the event. Md. Roknuzzaman. Director General of Bangladesh National Museum Md. Kamruzzaman and former Registrar of Copyrights Zafar Raja Chowdhury discussed in the seminar. The director of public library department Mosammat Maryam Begum delivered a welcome speech on the occasion. Deputy Director of Chittagong Divisional Public Library Dr. Haroon or Rashid thanked the attendees.
