Eight promising youngsters from Bangladesh have taken place among the top ten teams in the world in this year’s ‘Take for Good’ competition. The team members are: Syed Doha Uddin, Nishat Tasnim, Mohtasim Tasnim Zaman, Syeda Fatema Fairuz, Imtiaz Ahmed, Ramisha Raida Karim, Mehedi Hasan and Fatema Islam Tania.
Using 5G network and technologies like Cloud and AI for real-time monitoring, a special initiative of the team called ‘Dorakata’ raises the issue of reducing the number of Royal Bengal Tigers in Bangladesh as well as how to conserve the ecosystem and biodiversity of the Royal Bengal Tiger in the Sundarbans. The winners of Bangladesh became one of the best in the world by presenting the idea of using wireless sensors to protect the national animal of Bangladesh through quick response by the rangers and the vets in charge.
This month, the winners of Huawei Seeds for the Future 2021 Bangladesh will take part in the global semifinal round ‘Take for Good 2021’.
Huawei’s latest Seeds for the Future launched in September 2021; Where students from various science and engineering universities took part. The top 16 students were selected in the Bangladesh final round held in November last year.
Later, Bangladeshi students like the participants from 130 countries and regions submitted their project presentations under the theme ‘Take for All’. From there, all the Bangladeshi participants were shortlisted in the global competition round. And in the next round, according to the results of the quarter finals held this week, eight participants from Bangladesh will take part in the global semifinal round where they will fight against Argentina, Brazil, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, South Africa, Thailand and Poland.
Huawei Bangladesh CEO Zhang Zhengjun said, “Huawei has decided to prepare one lakh young people in the Asia-Pacific region by 2026 specifically for the digital and ICT sector. Huawei believes that young people are a great force for Bangladesh. So, we have been working for a long time to further enhance their ICT skills. The recognition that our young people have gained around the world is undoubtedly a source of pride for us and for Huawei’s Seeds for the Future Bangladesh team. We hope that our children will be able to reach the next milestone in ‘TechForGood 2021.”
Ramisha Raida Karim, a member of the selected team, said, “It was an exceptional experience for us, where we learned a lot, tackled new challenges as well as shared our innovative ideas with others. From the beginning till now, I have been learning how to solve real problems, how to think like an engineer and how I can devote myself to a significant change in the lives of others. Through this platform, I have come to know many problems of my country which have possible solutions and which can be easily solved with the blessings of technology”.
‘TechForGood’ is a leading social impact competition that has been going on since 2008. It provides opportunities to address existing social and environmental crises through state-of-the-art technology, communicates with key individuals and investors, and creates opportunities for experienced counseling that is useful in youth development. The top three teams in the competition were awarded prizes, additional training and FTF discussions and meetings with investors.
Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s flagship CSR program, dedicated to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) based students worldwide and inspires talented ICT sector. Launched for the first time in Bangladesh in 2014, the program has been caring for talented people in the ICT sector since its inception. Earlier, some of the winners of the program had the opportunity to work with Huawei.
Winners from other countries, including Bangladesh, received extensive training in the online training sessions from Huawei headquarters and the necessary ideas on the latest technology. They gained insights into telecommunication networks, key technologies in the ICT sector, 5G, artificial intelligence and Cloud computing. In addition, they participated in a special session to enhance leadership skills.
The semi-finals of the ‘2021 TechForGood’ competition will be held later this month where the top three projects will be announced.
