Popular laptop brand Dell has made a recent announcement regarding the promotion of telecommuters, which has already sparked controversy. In a company memo, Dell informed employees working from home that they could continue to work from home but would not be considered for promotions.
Dell has been a dominant force in the laptop and related products industry for over a decade. Especially since long before the advent of Covid, there was a hybrid work culture. But currently the company is implementing a strict return-to-office (RTO) policy for its employees. Which is a sign of clear deviation from its previous position.
In a memo circulated in February, Dell notified its employees of the back-to-office order, classifying them as “hybrid” or “work-from-home” workers. While hybrid workers must spend at least three days a week in an authorized office, workers working entirely from home face significant limitations.
Those employees will not be considered for promotion, according to internal documents obtained by Business Insider. Also, they will not be allowed to change their duties or roles within the company.
