Black Friday is the biggest shopping festival of the year especially in the western world. This year, workers at the US e-commerce giant Amazon have gone on strike across Europe to demand higher wages.
The “Make Amazon Pay” movement in 30 European countries is being coordinated by an organization called ‘UNI Global Union’. This movement will continue from Black Friday to Monday.
About 2,000 workers at the company’s six major warehouses or fulfillment centers across Germany have joined the strike, according to trade union Verdi. Germany was recognized as Amazon’s second largest market last year.
They said, 500 workers in Rheinberg joined the strike that is 40 percent of Amazon’s total workforce there. Also, the number of workers on strike in Leipzig was twenty-two and a half, which is 20 percent of the total number of workers in that section.
