Competitors from 17 economic regions of the world participated in the ICT Oscar-winning Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards, with two winners and two Merit Awards.
The two winners are Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) from Public Sector and Digital Government category; and Islamic University of Technology (IUT) from Research and Development category. The Institution of Diploma Engineers (IDEB) has also received Merit Award from Tertiary Student Category and Jhenaidah Polytechnic Institute has received Merit Award from Senior Student Category.
This information was given by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) in a press release on Saturday. Bangladesh participated in the competition for the first time this year on a virtual platform led by BASIS. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s APICTA Awards 2020-21 took place in a few steps on a virtual platform. This time, the contestants advanced to the final round by crossing 2 capsules. The entire judicial process is completed between the 1st of September and the 11th of December. Finally, on December 15, the ceremony was concluded with the announcement of the winner.
The Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA Awards) is an international awards competition, featuring members from 17 economies naming Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Pakistan, Singapore, including Vietnam and Nepal took part as every year. By the way, BASIS organized APICTA Awards in Bangladesh in 2017.
At this year’s APICTA Awards 2020-21, a total of 40 projects in different categories were selected to participate in the competition through a series of screening selections from interested companies from BASIS member companies, government agencies and students. BASIS Executive Council President Syed Almas Kabir, Senior Vice President Farhana A Rahman, Vice President (Administration) Shoaib Ahmed Masud, Vice President Mushfiqur Rahman, Director Rashad Kabir and 5 others participated in the competition as judges from Bangladesh. Rashed Kamal acted as the Economy Coordinator from Bangladesh. Enamul Hafeez Latifi, Joint Secretary (Research Fellow) and Nadia Tabassum, Assistant Manager, Trade Facilitation Division were also present on the occasion. This year’s APICTA Awards is held virtually in Malaysia.
