The cabinet on Monday (May 18th) approved a law to establish a science and technology university in Pirojpur Sadar. The university will be named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
The Virtual Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given final approval to the draft of ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Pirojpur Act, 2021’.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told reporters at the Secretariat.
He said the draft law was approved by the cabinet on January 11. This university will be established in Sadar upazila of Pirojpur. One or more institutes can be set up for higher education and research.
The secretary further said that the new law is being made following the laws of other universities. The draft will now be sent to Parliament for passage after scrutiny by the Law Ministry.
At present, educational activities are being conducted in 157 universities in Bangladesh, out of which 46 are government and 107 are private. There are also four medical universities.
