The government has decided to launch 5G this year, 5G will actually come with IoT devices. The BTRC has developed guidelines for IoT in 2018, which will encourage those who do IoT business and make IoT products. We don’t have to import IoT products, we have to make our own. Like Made in Bangladesh, we will create IoT devices with Made in Bangladesh.
BTRC Director General Brigadier General Mohammad Nasim Parvez expressed his hope while he addressed as a guest speaker at the special event “Robi Red talks” Virtually organized by Robi on Saturday.
We have to make a smart industry in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This smart industry requires IoT devices as well as AI, BigData technology. All in all, we will create a smart country, a smart economy, we will not depend on others.
Although there is Forge coverage in Bangladesh, why a large part of the people of the country are not using Forge yet? In response to such a question, he said, even though there is a Forge facility in the country, people are still using phones below Tk 1,000, especially in rural areas. That’s why Forge users are not growing. So those who are making phones should plan how to bring a Forge phone within 1000 taka. Everyone involved has to create a new package.
In reply to why we are not able to go to the world market even though phones are made in Bangladesh question, he said, the Chinese market has taken over the market and buyers don’t know yet that phones are being made in Bangladesh.
Nasim Parvez said the gray market for mobile phones will be brought down to zero, adding that the gray market has become smaller as a result of phone production in the country. In July, the BTRC will launch the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) so that no one can use illegal phones. Through this, we will bring down the gray market of mobile phones in the future.
