Bangladesh Chhatra League has announced ‘regular’ student politics in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). They announced a four-point program to bring back systematic politics. They assured that there will be no student politics of class-examination closure, session jams, ragging-bullying, occupation-trading and murder-terror.
They made this announcement at an emergency press conference on Tuesday, April 2 in the afternoon at Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen regarding the situation arose in BUET.
After reading out the written speech, Saddam Hossain, the central president of Chhatra League said that Bangladesh Chhatra League has won many challenges to remove ‘negative elements’ from student politics.
Stating that student politics will start again in BUET, he said, ‘We have to think about which student politics will continue in BUET. This politics is definitely not the student politics of class-examination closure, session jams, ragging-bullying, occupation-trading and murder-terror. This student politics will be modern, contemporary, diverse-creative, knowledge-logic-fact-theory based. In the last 15 years, Bangladesh, which was left behind by, has been brought back to the path of light, development and progress under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. In Sheikh Hasina’s planned advanced-modern Bangladesh, our overall student politics, above all in our educational institutions, cannot be conducted in a backward manner. And the beginning of modern systematic student politics is going to start from BUET, the highest educational institution of the country, the students of BUET are going to show the way to change the entire student politics, today is the opening of that auspicious occasion.
Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, DU Branch President Mazharul Islam Sayan and General Secretary Tanbir Hasan Saikat and many others were present.
Their announced programs are- 1. Sit-in program at BUET Shahid Minar to place BUET student Imtiaz Hossain Rahim Rabbi at his residential hall; 2. Calling for opinions and discussions with BUET students to determine the action plan for establishing a modern, smart and policy-based systematic student politics; 3. Organize seminars and cultural festivals to liberate BUET from communal-radical-militant black shadow and 4. Negotiations with the administration on the demand for student union elections in BUET.
While asked about when the Chhatra League can form a committee in BUET, he said, ‘We will do the next program after discussing with the students. I will discuss freely with them. Then we will think about the committee. Specialized universities will have specialized student politics.’
