Dr. Ghulam Abu Zakaria, a scientist of Bangladeshi origin received the ‘Federal Cross of Merit’ in 2024, which is the highest award of German government for his special contribution to the education and health sectors.
This information was confirmed in a press release sent from the embassy on Saturday, March 23.
In the press release, Dr. Golam Abu Zakaria is introduced as a Professor of Clinical Engineering at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and former Chairman of the Department of Medical Physics at the Gumerchberg Teaching Hospital, University of Cologne.
On Friday, March 22, distinguished guests including district governor Jochen Hagott, city mayor Ulrich Stocker and officials of the Bangladesh Embassy in Germany were present on behalf of the German president at the prize distribution ceremony at the Berghaus Bielstein building in Ville, Germany.
Dr. Ghulam Abu Zakaria was born in Ikarkuri village of Naogaon district. He went to Germany in 1972 as a first batch German scholarship student.
