State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that the government is determined to deliver smart postal services to the doorsteps of every people in the country, including remote areas, using the vast network of post offices, huge infrastructure and manpower. For this reason, according to the needs of the time, he directed the stakeholders to prepare a roadmap for the transformation of the post office from mail servicing to delivery servicing as well as to provide improved postal services on the basis of partnership through infrastructure sharing with others.
The state minister gave this instruction in the consultation meeting held with Directorate of Posts, a2i and e-CAB on Monday at Dak Bhaban at Agargaon in Dhaka.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak mentioned that even though the era of exchanging letters at the personal level has ended due to the effect of digitization, the post office will be the most reliable service organization for goods transportation. We have started the journey to reach another dream destination of building Smart Bangladesh by 2041. We have taken the initiative of distributing smart mail with the aim that marginal people can get the products bought from digital shop at low cost. With the smart postal system, it will be possible to deliver goods through various hubs centered around 10,000 post offices in the country. Automatic tracking system will also enable easy identification of where the customer’s product is. Each post office will have a separate corner for e-commerce from which products will be sorted, tracked and delivered to the customers at the earliest. If you can adopt and implement short-term, medium-term and long-term plans for the establishment of smart post office, it will be difficult to find any institution equal to the post office in postal services.
Directorate General of Posts Tarun Kanti Sikdar, a2i Project Director Mamunur Rashid, Policy Advisor Abdul Bari, e-CAB President Shomi Kaiser and General Secretary Abdul Wahed Tamal were present.
