Every inch of land in Sandwip will go under internet coverage
The construction work of ‘Joy SET Center’ has started at Kuchiamora village of Nazir Hat under Bauria Union of Sandwip. The Center is being constructed under the digital connectivity project by the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak officially inaugurated this work on Friday.
In the opening ceremony, he said, internet connection is yet to be provided in hard-to-reach remote Unions, we will provide internet connection there through Bangabandhu satellite, inshallah. Then every inch of Sandwip will come under internet connection.
Palak said that 74 percent of the country’s youth are under 25 years of age. About 5 crore students are studying in schools-colleges, madrassas and universities. 2.5 million youth are entering the workforce every year. But it is not possible for the government to provide employment to all of them, nor can they all go abroad and get employment. To solve that, we are making ‘Joy Smart Service and Employment Training Center (Joy SET Center)’ in various district Upazilas under the guidance of architect Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the pride of our young generation. He also said that it will take 3 years to complete the work of this center built at a cost of 15 crore taka. In Bangladesh, the construction of Joy SET Centers has started at a cost of 5 crores in various districts and Upazilas; but only two places are being constructed at a cost of 15 crores. One in Tungipara and another in Sandwip.
Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, Member of Parliament for Sandwip and President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry, Tanzina Islam, Project Director of Digital Connectivity (EDC) Project were present.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sandwip Md. Khorshed Alam Chowdhury presided over the event. The state-of-the-art ‘Joy SET Center’ will be set up under the Digital Connectivity (EDC) scheme under the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology. The ground floor of the center will have atrium (open space), lounge and breaking area. Besides outdoor interaction plaza area, registration room, generator room and store room. There is 1 lab, start-up and plug and play zone. There will also be meeting rooms, Network Operations Center (NOC) and switch rooms. There will be 2 labs, semi-covered interaction terraces.
Besides, a total of 241 high-speed internet connections will be provided to educational institutions, community clinics and various government offices in Sandwip Upazila under the EDC project. Among them, 150 primary schools, 36 secondary schools and higher secondary institutions, 3 colleges, 42 community clinics will be under this internet connection.
25 Sheikh Russell Digital Labs will also be set up in Sandwip Upazila under the EDC project.
In the afternoon at Haramia Union Parishad, under the project “Connected Bangladesh” under the project of Haramia Union under Sandwip Upazila, broadband internet connectivity was launched on a trial basis in 14 unions of the island, including an inspection of the progress of the installation of broadband internet connectivity in Haramia Union.
Later, the State Minister joined the discussion meeting with the ICT teachers of Sheikh Russell Computer Lab established in the Upazila educational institution, women entrepreneurs of women and e-commerce, freelancers, digital centers, postal entrepreneurs and civil society representatives. After the ceremony, State Minister Palak traveled to Sitakunda by speed boat and joined various programs in Chattogram. Sandwip Member of Parliament Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, Upazila Awami League President Alauddin Bedan, Sandwip Upazila Parishad Chairman and Upazila Awami League General Secretary Main Uddin Mission and Upazila Executive Officer Khorshed Alam Chowdhury were special guests on the occasion. It was presided over by Haramia Union Chairman Rahim Ullah conducted the event while the Haramia Union Parishad Chairman Jasim Uddin presided over.
