Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir said, efforts are being made to change the local government election rules. Candidates are encouraged to use digital platforms. In the future, the process of digitalization of all election activities including nomination paper submission of candidates is going on by canceling analog system. Laws will be made in this regard.
On Wednesday, February 28, he conveyed these matters to the reporters after exchanging views with officials responsible for the Mymensingh City Corporation elections, law enforcement forces and local administration at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
EC Md. Alamgir said, ‘The election will be neutral. There is no room for any irregularities. Complaints will be taken immediately. If there is any irregularity in any center in the Mymensingh City Corporation election, the polling of that center will be stopped immediately.
Regarding the election environment and voter attendance, he said, ‘The Election Commission has taken all kinds of steps to make the election fair. So far, the electoral environment is fine. Candidates are campaigning with enthusiasm. Candidates should maintain the environment. Strict action will be taken in case of violation. I appeal to the voters to come to the polling station and vote in a festive atmosphere. Since this is local government elections, hopefully voter turnout will be good enough.
The EC interacted with the mayoral and councilor candidates participating in the city corporation elections at the Town Hall Tarek Smriti Auditorium on Sunday afternoon. He answered various questions of the candidates.
Regarding the complaints of the candidates, he said, ‘Irregularities in EVMs are absolutely impossible, it is a matter of science. There is no chance of one person’s vote going to another person’s symbol. If that was the case then other candidates including Jatiya Party would not have won in the previous elections.
Divisional Commissioner Umme Salma Tanzia presided over the meeting. It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Didare Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury, Mymensingh Regional Election Officer and Mymensingh City Corporation Election Returning Officer Mohammad Belayet Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Raihanul Islam and related officials.
