The Minister for Fisheries and Livestock ministry Md. Abdur Rahman said that ‘Smart Bangladesh’ will be formed by 2041 through increasing productivity in agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors by using new technologies. For this reason, the Minister called upon the agriculturists to unite and develop new technologies in the field of agriculture to build a smart Bangladesh by creating knowledge-based skilled human resources by 2041.
He said that with the increase in population and decrease in the amount of land per capita, the demand for food and nutrition of people is increasing day by day. To meet this demand, agricultural scientists should continue their relentless efforts to produce more productive seeds, high protein rich fish, meat, eggs and milk by inventing new technologies.
The minister opined so, while addressing as the chief guest at the function organized by Krishibid Institution Bangladesh on Tuesday, February 13 on the occasion of Farmer’s Day.
Krishibid Institution Bangladesh President Agriculturist Professor Dr. Md. Shahidur Rashid Bhuiyan presided over the event while Minister of Agriculture, valiant freedom fighter Dr. Md. Abdus Shahid, MP; Agriculturist AFM Bahauddin Nasim, MP; and Joint General Secretary, Bangladesh Awami League, Secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Salim Uddin and Secretary General of Krishibid Institution Bangladesh Agriculturist Md. Khairul Alam Prince delivered their speeches on the occasion.
In the event, the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock said, in the hope of building an unstoppable Bangladesh in the progress of prosperity, with the aim of building a developed and prosperous country by 2041 and for sustainable development, we need to increase in fish production, work for job creation, ensuring socio-economic development of fishermen, market expansion of fish and fish products export, safe fish production, creating fisheries sanctuaries in eco-sensitive areas, hilsa resource development and management, marine fish stock assessment activities have been undertaken to develop the potential of the blue economy. As a result, an opportunity has been created to meet our needs and export fish and meat abroad.
Referring to Sheikh Hasina as an honest Prime Minister of the world, he said, under her visionary leadership, Bangladesh is self-sufficient in food today. He called the Prime Minister as an agriculture-friendly Prime Minister and urged everyone to work together according to his directions.
Bangladesh is self-sufficient in fish production by adopting and implementing timely plans for production and management of inland open and closed water bodies and marine water bodies. The minister also commented that as a result of the successful implementation of the planning and development projects undertaken by the government in the fisheries sector, the production of fish has increased to an enviable level.
He said, under the timely guidance of Sheikh Hasina, with the aim of implementing Vision-2041, to meet the demand of milk and meat and to increase the production, the Department of Livestock has taken various projects which will help to reach the quality of service at the doorstep of the farmers.
The Minister of Fisheries and Livestock said that agriculturists should continue their efforts to increase the yield of fish, meat, eggs and food crops, taking into account the global adverse conditions and climate change. They have to produce their own food grains. New varieties of crops have to be produced along with traditional crops.
The Minister said that as a result of the adoption of dynamic development strategies under the visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina to fulfill Bangabandhu’s dream of building a hunger and poverty-free Sonar Bangla, Bangladesh is moving forward rapidly in the agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors.
