Evaly founder and CEO Md Russell returned Tk 15 lakh to settle 150 complaints among the customers after coming out on bail. He also announced to return the dues of the 6,500 people gradually who lodged their complaints in the Directorate of Consumers Rights Protection, following the specific policy.
The dues check was handed over in the presence of AHM Safikuzzaman, Director General of the Directorate, at the office of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection in TCB Bhaban, Karwan Bazar on Sunday.
At that time, Director (Activities and Laboratory) Fakir Muhammad Munawar Hossain, Deputy Director (Complaints) Masum Arefin, General Secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Advocate Humayun Kabir were present.
On the occasion, the Director General AHM Safikuzzaman said that, 80 percent of complaints have been settled in e-commerce. After the arrest, many people left the country with the money. Since it was not possible to investigate the complaints about the people detained in the country, it was not possible to settle the complaints. After doing escrow service, SOP, DBID now digital commerce authority is being formed. Taka 380 crores withheld from escrow service has been returned.
He also said that according to Article 54, the consumer rights director has to look after the interests of consumers as well as traders. We want a positive mindset. Even if they do business, they want to return the customer’s money.
Md. Russell said, I want to say clearly, the 150 people who are getting back money today are from the business profit of the past one month. This money we earned from the commission received from sellers from 65 thousand orders. That is why I am grateful to the merchants. Now we are announcing that we will also refund those who did not complain from the business profits.
He called for the formation of a committee consisting of e-CAB, Consumer Rights and Evaly to pay the dues of consumers. He said, the gateway money list has been given through the Ministry of Commerce. You will get the money within this week. Hopefully this refund will start by May.
CAB General Secretary said, “It is not our concern whether anyone goes to jail.” We want the affected consumers to get their money back. Those who have not complained yet, please complain. And those who fled abroad should be brought back.
