Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) authority informed that illegal mobile phones used in the country will soon be disconnected from the network. On Sunday (January 21), this information was conveyed in the notification signed by the Director of Spectrum Department Dr. Md. Sohail Rana.
It is said that NEIR activities have started in full swing with the purpose of ensuring receipt or provision of various government services by tagging each mobile phone with BTRC national identity and registered SIM card, to stop the use of illegally manufactured or imported mobile phones. It will ensure the collection of government revenue. Besides, theft and illegal use of mobile phones will be prevented.
The notification also said that the operation of NEIR will be launched in full swing soon and the illegal mobile network will be disconnected. In this situation, everyone has to check the validity before buying the mobile handset.
BTRC also said that before purchasing a mobile set, the validity of the handset can be verified by sending KYD and 15 digit IMEI number (for example: KYD 123456789012345) to 16002 from the message option.
Earlier on January 16, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak announced the ban on unregistered mobile phones in the country. On that day, he said, unregistered mobile phones will be stopped to control crime in the country. BTRC has mobile phone database and automatic registration system.
