In addition to increasing export income and investment, Bangladesh has taken initiatives to increase mutual cooperation and coordination with the United States in cyber security. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak held a close meeting with the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas at the Secretariat on Tuesday to strengthen the relationship with the USA, the country on which we are largely dependent on ICT sector in building a smart Bangladesh.
In this bilateral meeting held at the minister’s office in the afternoon, they discussed about increasing software exports from Bangladesh to the United States; increasing remittances through outsourcing from freelancing and establishing 10 university research and innovation centers in the country. Also, the Minister of State for Telecom and ICT has also informed about the fruitful discussion about the G2G agreement between America and Bangladesh Post Office; and attaining investment cooperation from Amazon, Starlink, Google and Facebook.
After the meeting, in response to the questions of the journalists, he said that there was a discussion with the honorable ambassador about the increase of our exports and investment from the US in telecom, post and ICT. Besides, the issues of how we can work together to increase more employment in innovation and skill development and ensure cyber security in both countries as well as the world were discussed. While asked whether the US Ambassador Peter D. Haas said anything or not in the context of the post-election scenario, Palak said, I have talked about the new government and the new vision. Discussions were held on how we can work together as knowledge partners to build a better, prosperous, smart Bangladesh in the future. Nothing more was discussed beyond that.
