In the new cabinet of the 12th parliament, Architect Yeafesh Osman is again joining the technocrat quota as a minister. His name appeared in the list of 25 full ministers released by the Cabinet Secretariat on Wednesday.
Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain told reporters that as a technocrat minister, he was called and congratulated and invited to take oath on Thursday. After taking the oath, the office will be distributed.
According to the request of Parliament leader Sheikh Hasina, the President Md. Sahabuddin has nominated 11 state ministers in this year’s cabinet.
Architect Yeafesh Osman, son of novelist Shaukat Osman, was elected the vice-president of the student council of the University of Engineering in 1970. He was elected as the VP of Yuksu as the leader of BUET’s student union. He was a leftist politician during his student life. Later he joined Awami League as Science and Technology Secretary. Osman is a freedom fighter. He fought in Sector 2 during the Bangladesh War of Independence for the NAP Communist Guerrilla Force. On 6 January 2009, he was sworn in as the Minister of State for Science and Information and Communication Technology.
On January 12, 2014, he took charge as the State Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology for the second time. On July 14, 2015, he was sworn in as the Minister of Science and Technology. On November 6, 2018, four technocrat ministers, including Yafes Osman, were ordered by Prime Minister to resign. He was re-appointed as Minister of Science and Technology for the 3rd consecutive term on January 7, 2019.
