The news of postponement of voting in Gaibandha-5 constituency has spread on the Internet on Friday evening citing the Election Commission. But this is not the fact; the fact is, Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that it is a mere rumour.
On Friday (January 5), he told reporters in the meeting room of the Election Commission Building in the capital’s Agargaon that the information about the postponement of voting for Gaibandha-5 seat in the 12th National Parliament election is baseless, stating that no such decision has been taken.
Ashok Kumar Debnath said, ‘The information about the postponement of polling in various TV and media scrolls is baseless. The Commission has not taken any such decision. We have issued a notification to avoid confusion.’
When it was pointed out that the information was disclosed about the law department, he said that the matter is being looked into. However, the information about suspension of voting is baseless.
In response to the question whether the election environment in Gaibandha is good or not, he said, ‘According to the report we have, the environment in the election centers of the whole country including Gaibandha-5 constituencies is healthy.’
Awami League candidate Mahmud Hasan Ripon (Boat), independent candidate Farzana Rabbi Bubli (Truck), Shamsul Azad Shital (Eagle), BikolpoDhara Bangladesh candidate Jahangir Alam (Kula) and NPP’s Farooq Mia (Mango) are contesting in the Gaibandha-5 constituency.
