Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers’ Association-BMPCA commented that Evaly’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Russell has taken advantage of the decrease in the monitoring of the Ministry of Commerce and various administrations of the government amid the activities of the national elections.
At the same time, the organization called upon the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection and the Competition Commission to keep an eye on the activities started by Evaly. On Saturday (December 30), President of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers’ Association Mohiuddin Ahmed made this call in a statement.
It is said in the statement that, Evaly’s Managing Director Mohammad Russell has recently been released from jail and is attracting customers under the campaign Big Bang Offer. Earlier, the chairman and managing director of this company had taken shelter of fraud with thousands of customers. On the basis of which 7-8 thousand complaints have been filed in the National Directorate of Consumer Protection. Bangladesh Competition Commission has also filed a case against Evaly.
It also said that the Ministry of Commerce has set up a separate committee on the orders of the High Court to manage their activities. But after the company’s Managing Director Russell was released from jail, he made a fuss in various media and social media in the name of Big Bang offer. We have noticed that around 30-35 thousand customers have made advance bookings by responding to his call. In this regard, we are drawing the attention of the Directorate of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Competition Commission to take necessary steps. Along with this, customers are requested to be cautious and not to make any transactions until the previous complaints are resolved.
In the statement, Mohiuddin Ahmed said, we think that since the elections are a week away and the state activities of the ministry and the government have come to a standstill, Russell has taken that chance. Being responsible to the people, the media should report on the activities of Evaly. This allows the customer to get correct information and avoid fraud. Hopefully, the government will take necessary steps in this regard soon.
