51% of cybercrime in the country takes place through phishing. And the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has started working to make people aware of this phishing or fake app fraud. As part of this, the NCSA organized a seminar on “Safe Internet Use and Prevention of Cybercrime” at the conference center of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Thursday. Personal Data Protection Act, Cyber Bullying and Digital Signatures were also discussed in the seminar.
Professor Dr. Md. Azizul Haque of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College was present as the chief guest in the day-long seminar organized by National Cyber Security Agency and Information and Communication Technology Department in collaboration with Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College authorities. Director General of Digital Security Agency Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman presented the main article in the seminar. The Vice-Chancellor of Barisal university Dr. GM Nazimul Haque presided over the seminar while Md. Rashid Al Asif, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Barisal University was present as a discussant. At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Md. Azizul Haque thanked the Prime Minister for setting up the National Cyber Security Agency and advised the audience to be aware of various cyber risks and mobile scams.
Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman emphasized the importance of creating mass awareness about the cyber risks and to be safe in cyber space. He highlighted the need for the newly approved Cyber Security Act, 2023 and various aspects of cyber security to secure the country’s cyber space in cyber security. Besides, Cyber Security Agency Director General highlighted the action plan of National Cyber Security Agency to ensure cyber security. He also shed light on various activities and future plans of the National Cyber Security Agency and what should be done to make citizens smart.
Discussant of the seminar Md. Rashid Al Asif highlighted the need for cyber security by referring to the cyber attack on the central bank of Bangladesh. Besides, he highlighted the statistics of cybercrime happening in the country and abroad. He opined that, cyber security act was very necessary in the country.
Sadat Rahman, founding president of Cyber Teens Foundation and winner of the International Children’s Peace Award 2020, in his discussion mentioned the various cases of cyber bullying of teenagers, especially women, and asked them to report to the hotline number 13219 hotline inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister if they are victims of cyber bullying.
Participants in the seminar presented various questions on safe internet usage, cyber security, cyber crime prevention and cyber security act. Keynote presenters, panelists and NCSA officials answered all those questions.
