A topic-based awareness session was held on Wednesday (November 15) at the National Museum of Science and Technology on ‘orderly living and scientific eating habits’. All levels of science museum officials participated in the session.
DPDC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sheikh Mainul Hossain was present as the main speaker in the session.
In his discussion, he shed light on the need and strategies to avoid various complex diseases related to food such as type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and various cancers. He said, most of the people above 40 in Bangladesh are suffering from diabetes. The main reason for this is lack of proper diet and leading a regular lifestyle. It is important to keep healthy food in the diet to meet the daily nutrition without eating a full stomach. Apart from that, you have to choose the right food list to maintain good health and weight. All in all, a scientific diet and adequate sleep work is needed as a preventive measure against these diseases.
In the session, Director General of National Museum of Science and Technology Mohammad Munir Chowdhury said, “Moderate oil should be used in cooking. Vegetable oil is beneficial for health. Low heat cooking preserves the nutritional value of food. Excessive heat breaks down the molecular structure of the oil to form transfats, which are dangerous to health.”
