Finally, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has officially inaugurated the country’s second largest Novotheatre, built in the educational city of Rajshahi. On Tuesday (November 14) at around 11 am, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated it being connected virtually from the Ganobhaban.
Awami League Presidium Member and Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Member of Parliament of Rajshahi Sadar Constituency Fazle Hossain Badsha, Member of Parliament of Rajshahi-3 Constituency Ayen Uddin, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed, Rajshahi Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md. Anisur Rahman, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Biplab Bijay Talukder, Rajshahi Superintendent of Police (SP) Saifur Rahman were connected being present at the opening ceremony held at the the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi.
Besides, local public representatives of Rajshahi, valiant freedom fighters, representatives of civil society, departmental and district level officials were present in this event.
Later, Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton entered the Novo Theatre after unveiling its plaque and enjoyed the first show with the students of different educational institutions of the city.
At this time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also announced the inauguration of 12 newly built educational institutions under three projects guided by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre and Directorate of Education Engineering and laying the foundation stone of Rajshahi Medical University.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre costed 232 crore taka. Out of this 142 crore taka has been spent on construction of buildings alone. The rest of the money was spent on various parts of the Novo Theatre and other sectors. The world’s most advanced telescope has been installed in it. With which the researchers here can further advance the research of the universe.
Earlier on January 9, 2012, Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton wrote a letter to the Ministry of Science and Technology to establish a Novo Theatre in Rajshahi. Basically, the dream journey of Novo Theatre started from then. The Public Works Directorate of the Ministry of Science and Technology has worked on this project.
