To keep the Keraniganj area on the outskirts of Dhaka crime-free, the police started surveillance activities through closed circuit cameras (CCTV). In this program, five unions under Keraniganj Model Police Station are being brought under the coverage of 200 CC cameras.
This program was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and local Member of Parliament Nasrul Hamid at Semanti Convention Hall in Keraniganj on Thursday (November 9) afternoon. This plan is being implemented under the initiative of Dhaka District Police. It is being financed by Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading industrial group.
Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that the police force is playing a leading role in implementing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s promise to build a smart Bangladesh. This initiative of Dhaka District Police to ensure the safety of the citizens of Keraniganj is part of it. Police forces are risking their lives to serve people.
He also said that Keraniganj has taken a step forward in strengthening the civil rights and security of common people by installing CCTV cameras. This kind of CCTV is not found anywhere except in the modern areas of the country. The CCTV cameras that are going to be installed in Keraniganj are very modern. We will install cameras in every alley. Through this, the police will provide round-the-clock security to the people of Keraniganj. By 2024, we will declare Keraniganj 100% crime free, inshallah.
Dhaka District Police Superintendent Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Nurul Islam was present as the guest of honor. Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman was present as the special guest on the occasion. Other guests were Keraniganj Upazila Parishad Chairman and Dakkhin Keraniganj Thana Awami League President Shaheen Ahmed and General Secretary M I Mamun.
Shahabuddin Kabir, Additional Superintendent of Police, Keraniganj Circle, presented a welcome speech on the occasion. The program was conducted by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station Md. Shahzaman.
