According to the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Haque, a total of 7001 cases have been filed across the country under the Digital Security Act till January 31 this year.
The Law Minister conveyed this information in response to a question of Mokabbir Khan, a member of the Public Forum in the National Parliament on Monday (05 June).
The Digital Security Act was passed in September 2018 and came into effect on October 8 that year. Three days later, on October 11, the first case was filed under this law. Mokabbir Khan in his question wants to know the number of cases and arrests under the Digital Security Act.
Also, in the question and answer session, the Law Minister said that as the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs is concerned with the question regarding how many people have been arrested under the Digital Security Act, that part has been transferred to the Public Security Department as per Article 213(2) of the Secretariat Guidelines 2014.
In response to Awami League member of parliament Abul Kalam Azad’s question, Law Minister Anisul Haque said that the total number of pending cases in the subordinate courts of Bangladesh till March 31 is 36 lakh 70 thousand 670. Among them, the number of civil cases is 15 lakh 84 thousand 160 and the number of criminal cases is 20 lakh 86 thousand 510.
