Around 5,000 shops were burnt down in Bangbazar, a clothing wholesale and retail business center. The businessmen are facing a loss of more than thousand crore taka when the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is the best time for shopping. The e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh e-CAB, the national organization of technology-dependent traders, is standing by the affected traders to reduce their losses.
On Tuesday afternoon, in an emergency meeting of the e-CAB Executive Committee, it was decided to cancel the upcoming Iftar Party and use the money for the rehabilitation of the victims. At the same time, on April 7, at the SK Tower of Mohakhali, prayers will be offered for the protection of the country from national calamities along with the business victims.
The e-CAB president Shomi Kaiser presided over the meeting held online after this information was conveyed by the General Secretary of the organization Mohammad Abdul Waheed Tamal. He said that many traders and employees have been affected by the fire in Bangabazar. On Tuesday afternoon we canceled the Iftar program after discussing with the sponsors. I have decided to stand by the people affected by the fire in Bangabazar with that money instead of the upcoming Iiftar Party. This work will be implemented through human services initiative and we hope that other members will also cooperate in this activity of e-CAB.
The e-CAB Vice President Sahib Uddin Shipon, Deputy General Secretary Nasima Akhtar Nisha, Director Saidur Rahman Saeed, Syeda Ambareen Reza, Shahriar Hasan and Md. Ilmul Haque Sajib were present in that urgent meeting.
e-Cab has expressed deep sorrow and condolence over the horrific fire, citing the accident as an irreparable loss for the affected businessmen before Eid. At the same time, the organization called for keeping adequate fire extinguishing systems in every market , market and household , inspecting them regularly and above all raising awareness among the public to prevent fire.
