The Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that smart postal system is essential for smart Bangladesh. And to ensure smart post office transformation smart postmen with digital skills need to be made. Developing postal workers as digitally skilled human resources is a big challenge. No matter how difficult this challenge is, we must realize the dream of building a smart post office. In the coming days, they will have to manage postal services with a digital device like a smart phone. He directed the concerned to determine and implement measures to impart digital skills to postal workers. The Minister urged the ADA staff of the Department of Posts to make a permanent arrangement.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the handing over of the final report of the construction survey of the Automated Mail Processing Center for the Bangladesh Post Office at Dak Bhaban Auditorium in Dhaka today.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said that although the era of letters is over, the time has come for the post office to take a new turn as the needs and scope of work of the post office have increased. The country will benefit if the vast infrastructure and network of post offices across the country are properly utilized. In today’s era of digital technology, every person to person communication can also be done by Post Office. This institution is known to every person in every corner of the country. He said, the infrastructure created during the colonial period does not match the digital transformation of Bangladesh. He described the creation of the survey report as a historic event for the postal service. Appreciating a2i’s cooperation in digitizing the post office, this pioneer of digital technology development said, a2i has developed many solutions to digitize government institutions. We need to see if the organization that needs transformation is transforming. The minister pointed out that preparation of DSDL recommendations in coordination with postal officials is a fruitful initiative of a2i and said that DSDL recommendations will see the light of day and this work has been established. The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said that the present system of postal services is based on manual labour. We have embarked on a journey of transition from traditional to new. The smart post office will be implemented under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Director General of Postal Department Md. Harunur Rashid presided over the event, Posts and Telecommunications Division Additional Secretary Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam and a2i Officer Farhad Sheikh spoke on the occasion.

The Director General of the Department of Posts said that if the construction study of automated mail processing center for Bangladesh Post Office is implemented, a revolutionary change will be initiated in the country’s postal system. He termed it as a visionary work of the Hon’ble Minister for the transformation of postal services.

On the occasion, the organization conducting the survey presented the survey report to the Trivision and Newvision Minister. Department of Posts implements the survey project for construction of smart post office at a cost of 3 crore 33 lakhs.
