The E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) has proposed to reduce the 15 percent duty imposed on the supply of goods purchased online to 5 percent, seeking a 10-year tax exemption.
The e-CAB leaders made these proposals in the pre-budget talks with the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The NBR chairman Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Munim presided over this discussion held on Tuesday afternoon at the new Revenue Building in Agargaon, Dhaka. The e-CAB vice president Mohammad Sahab Uddin presented 5 proposals on behalf of the organization.
The proposal calls for the inclusion of marketplaces, including retail, in the current definition of selling products online. It is argued that this will bring more transparency in the government’s VAT collection and increase revenue to the state exchequer.
