The Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, Bangladesh is a country of liberal communal harmony. Sectarianism and extremism have no place in this country. Nationalism, socialism, democracy and secularism are the motto of the constitution of Bangladesh. The current government, guided by the spirit of the Great Liberation War, is determined to root out extremism and communal evil. Communal, militant and terrorist forces must be uprooted and countered at all levels.
The minister expressed his position in the digital platform while speaking as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of the day-long seminar on the ‘Role of teachers, students and mass media workers in countering extremism and cybercrime’ organized by the Bangladesh Police Counter-Terrorism and International Crime Prevention Center construction project at Netrakona on Tuesday.
The Minister urged the law enforcement agencies, students, teachers, parents and media workers to come forward to play an important role in preventing various types of incitement, misinformation and rumours, including social media, and other digital platforms, including destruction of communal harmony.
He said, “We should be careful not to spread extremism, terrorism and militancy through social media”. Emphasizing the need to keep oneself safe through social media, the minister said passwords cannot be handed over to others. Two-step verification should be enabled everywhere. We can play a role in keeping the digital world safe by keeping ourselves safe and speaking out against propaganda.
Pointing out that the police has an important role in dealing with digital harassment; the minister said that the police should provide security to the people in the digital sphere as well as in other spheres. The minister praised the role of the police as they are playing an important role in preventing digital crime.
He urged the participants of the seminar to play a role in preventing digital crime by spreading the knowledge gained in the seminar to others.
Netrakona Superintendent of Police Faiz Ahmed presided over the event while the DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Nazmul Islam, BPM. Educationist Matindra Sarkar and Netrakona Press Club general secretary M Mokhleshur Rahman Khan spoke at the event.
