Semiconductor design company Ulkasemi wants to present Made in Bangladesh chips to the world by 2031. Two designs have already been sent to FabLab. Sitting in their own 3,000 square feet lab in Gulshan, four engineers are testing at Teton Electronics’ fablab in Silicon Valley. 30 percent of the company’s 300 engineers are women. None of them have any foreign degree or training. After studying at the country’s university, Ulkasemi is now going to work with Apple and TSM.
This is what Mizanur Rahman, COO of Ulkasemi and CEO of Titon Electronics, its subsidiary, expects in Ulkasemi’s 15th anniversary celebration. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated a new test lab of Ulkasemi on the occasion.
While speaking as the chief guest, he said, I think we have entered the semiconductor era. Ulkasemi is one of the examples that Bengali boys are not behind in their talent and creativity. We hope that by the year 2030, through the talented engineers of the country, we will be able to earn 10 billion dollars worth of exports from the semiconductor industry through semiconductor and chip designing, testing and manufacturing. For this reason, I will appeal to the honorable adviser to increase the tax-free benefits for the ICT sector from 2024 to 2030. Startup Bangladesh will invest in Ulkasemi for its development.
Referring to the difference between night and day in Bangladesh after 2008, the state minister said that 20,000 university graduates will be trained to build the future-oriented skilled manpower of the EDGE project. Out of this, 4,000 people will be skilled in frontier technology. Besides, VLSI labs will be set up in 10 universities. At the same time, it is not possible to spend 300 million in a short time, but by investing 15 million dollars, we will set up a nano lab in BUET in a short time.
Ulkasemi Chairman Enayetur Rahman said in the event, we want to present Made in Bangladesh chip to the world. We are working for this.
